Promotion to Core level
It is a great news that Oliver's hard work pay off when he is being promoted from Bridging to Core level in Chinese. Although he missed his test, I am glad to know that he isn't penalized from being absent.
Even when Oliver fell sick for the past two weeks, he was not spared from homework. His teacher Ms Emily Seow diligently asked us to give Oliver spelling at home and passed back to her for marking.
This note written by Ms Seow showed how much effort she had put him to ensure her students improved continuously (at home) which had me struggling. Not forgetting there were also other subjects and its homework. Gosh, what kind of system we have in Singapore. Homework is more important than health? But having said this, I am very much appreciative of teacher's effort, although I cannot help to think that these teachers are also in the same situation which the social norms and pressure had made it impossible not to do so.

What a relief!
28 October - Oliver's fever went away by the 7th day and went for blood count test on Monday. Blood count went up to 129 but still below the healthy range of 140. Doctor gave three more days of medical leave so that Oliver could have enough rest at home. Oliver said he was so lucky to avoid all his assessment in school; last paper on Thursday. I rebutted that he wasn't that lucky. If he could take the Chinese assessment, Ms Seow, his Chinese teacher said he could switch to Core level from his current Bridging level. He shrugged his shoulder and seemed disappointed.
31 October - We were very hopeful that Oliver's condition improved. He ate more the past few days (probably because he overheard doctor saying if he takes lesser than 50% of his usual meal and drink very little, it is advisable to admit him). The dengue test we took on Monday was negative. However, doctor's explanation confused me. She explained that the strain in the blood was very similar to dengue fever, although the result showed it being negative. But it is really a relief for us for that moment. Well, now is Heidi's turn to fall sick. Poor Heidi also had fever.

6th day of fever
We went for 3 rounds of blood test ever since Oliver has taken ill on Monday. This is really worrying. He had never taken so long to recover. The news of Somerset area being demarcated as zone red for dengue made the diagnose more difficult to tell. Oliver's platelets dropped from 129 to 89 on the second round of testing. Normal range is above 150. Today, it went up slightly better at 102. Unfortunately, we could not determine the real cause as Oliver refused to allow the nurse to take more blood. He was hysterical when the needle pricked him. Poor boy, I have never seen him with such low energy level. Hope my dear boy can recover fast.

Relishing old times at Sinpopo
I have been waiting to eat at Sinpopo after our recent visit to Dongpo. It has taken us quite a while as the parking at Joo Chiat road can be quite a nightmare, and it did. We went to our favourite Aston place for steaks which was around the corner where Sinpopo is, and was relief to see much shorter queue. Many years back before Aston expanded its operation, the queue here was a huge turn off. We used to come at 5 pm just to avoid the queue. My wait was just 15 min, though the wait for the food took quite a while. Oliver and Heidi were quite pleased with our choice of dinner place. But that's not our real highlight of the night, more to come. We gonna have some fun with the ice ball at Sinpopo.
We ordered the Ice ball and Gula Melaka jelly. The latter was a dab too sweet for me and I kinda thought the ice ball tasted rather unusual. Oliver still prefer the ice Kacang at food republic, and I certainly go with his choice. Heidi simply enjoyed biting any shaved ice she could grab hold off, and was spooning the ice all the while. Probably more than half of the ice ball melted not in the mouth but the bowl. We would probably return to try other dishes, and not the ice ball or the jelly. Nostalgic atmosphere to go with a cup of Kopi next time, maybe.

Playtime at EatPlayLove Cafe
Another new place for Oliver and Heidi to have fun. The cafe opens only at 12 noon and we loitered around Aliwal Arts Centre for half a hour. Oliver didn't want to wait and wanted to go home, Heidi didn't want to walk around and insisted to wait outside the cafe door. When we finally walked around the place and returned, there were families waiting to go in.
Stroll around the village
