Subway tea break

Oliver's fav pandan cake and rainbow kueh Lagus to feast his eyes, and my badly needed hot lemon tea for my edgy flu. It was all relaxing and nice until halfway through the feast, nature called for Oliver.

Good start for Hanyu Pinyin spelling

Today was Oliver's first Hanyu Pinyu spelling, and I was not expecting him to pass the test. I gave him a mock spelling in the morning, and he did quite badly. But what a surprise when he showed me his result.

Oliver's creation

Laura and her charming twins

I have not met Laura for the longest time, and it has been great catching up with old friend. It was good that we managed to arrange a time and met up at West Coast Park. Laura looked motherly even with her short cropped hair, and Tat is made to be a father. Laura is simply amazing - still breastfeeding her 2-year old kids.

The weather was beautiful today, and perfect for playing at the playground. The kids were playing on their own, probably due to the age gap. I was just contented sitting around, chit chatting with Laura as the men look after the kids. Wish I could sit around the whole day but the Yuens gonna left as the kids were exhausted. We shall catch up again and hopefully, with the rest of ex-sds colleagues too.

Del-care 2006 babies gathering

How fast the 2006 babies have grown! All ready in Primary 1 this year. Ivy (Shanice and Shania's mum) initiated a small gathering at Changi Airport. Carol (Claire's mum) who linked us up for this gathering, and Jacqueline (Yun Xuan's mum) brought their kids. It was the first time we met up with the parents after all these years and somewhat the feelings of not having to meet so often made this gathering more meaningful. Carol was really sweet and made us cupcakes. Ivy also surprised the kids with quick purchases of gifts for the Kids. Even, Ivy was amazing fast in grabbing a box of ice cream for the kids. I was overwhelmed by such generous gestures and quite touched by all these parents.

For dinner, we ate at the ramen restaurant. The parents and the kids sat at separate tables. The kids were uniquely del-care... Very loud. I was quite surprised when Oliver led his friends in singing RVPS, which I heard him singing for the very first time. The parents shared their gal's encounter at school -Yun Xuan at Pioneer, Shanice & Shania at Paya Lebar Methodist and Claire at RGS. It was an enriching experience.

After dinner, it was playtime for the kids. They played slide and watched 3D movie. Then it was ice cream time.

Glad that we have nothing on and can turned up for this gathering. Hope these kids can be friends for many years to come.

4th school day

After a weekend break, it is back to school again. Oliver made another bus stop friend Oh Han Wei when he played at the Duxton park last Saturday. It is such a blessing to little children that they make friends so easily. The kids waiting the bus stop are amazing. When they saw the bus coming, they queue up on their own, without any parents instruction. I cannot remember I was that civilised when back in school right up to poly days. Well done kids!

Monday is RVPS' assembly, Oliver is to wear a tie, which he says he is not comfortable. But he looks so good to me. Today, I made lunch box for him. First time making lunch box and quite clumsy at it- had a little cut on my finger. Oliver helps me along in my preparation by to peeling his favourite edamame. Hope my dear picky boy can finish the tuna and fish roe rice rolls.

3 days at RVPS

Oliver survived the first three days at school. He had fish ball noodle on day 1 with the help of P5 senior; day 2, he bought chicken rice and a cup of ice lemon tea; day 3, he had noodle but he was unsure what noodle he bought.

He told us that he sat at the first few rows at the front of the classroom, which was near to the door, and he could not really see what the teacher wrote on the board. That's a good sign as it actually show that Oliver makes an effort to listen to what the teacher says.

He also made some friends from other class in RVPS who took the same bus as him. Coincidentally, the boy's name is Caleb, who is Oliver's best friend in Del-Care.

So far, this boy fares better than our expectation. So proud of him!

First day at River Valley Primary School

Oliver steps into another milestone of his life - new environment with new friends and teachers. With his short haircut, he certainly looks ready for school. For RVPS, primary one starts in the afternoon. This is great as Oliver can sleep longer, and this also means I can wake up later on some days.

The morning is very short. After eating our breakfast, we reach home at around 10 am. Oliver practice his piano and we run through the books which he is bringing to school. Time flies and next moment, Oliver is wearing his uniform and get ready to walk to the bus stop to catch his school bus.

We decided not to take the school bus, but go to the school to peek at how our boy is doing. Not too bad, he is rather cool on the first day, none of the dramatic display of behaviour. Instead, He seems more shy to acknowledge his parents who are trying to catch his attention by waving frantically at him during his recess time.

Alright, Oliver is certainly more independent than what I expected.
