Follow Me Hokkaido - Day Six

AKAN / TESHIKAGA

Breakfast at Akan Yukunosato Tsuruga

This tofu was very fresh. To eat the tofu, we had to peel off the plastic wrap by placing the tofu into this round secured bowl. We then poked it with a toothpick breaking the wrap with the tofu inside the bowl. What an innovative way to eat!
The Washo Ichiba seafood market is famous for its unique way of eating katte don. First, we purchased a bowl of fresh rice and then roamed around the market choosing slices of fresh seafood from the various vendors who would put these seafood on top of our rice, creating our own donburi.

It was always fun to share ice cream with our kids, and we could not help ourselves to another one when we spotted this interesting looking house on our way to the seafood market, and decided to check it out on our way back to hotel. Beside the ice cream, we also bought a bottle of fresh milk (like the glass bottle - now on display in my kitchen at home).

A popular shop for the local too.

Our dinner at Akan.. Yummy.

This is not the real thing - Marimo, but the jelly which resembled it. Marimo, a unique living creature is considered as Lake Akan's jewel In 1921 marimo were designated as a Japanese National Treasure. Lake Akan has become the only lake in the world today where large round marimo can still be observed. And guess what, I ate two boxes of these treasures.
